The Department of Psychiatry at Stellenbosch 肆客足球 stands as a leading centre for mental health education, research, and clinical care in South Africa. Established in 1971 at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in Tygerberg, the Department has played a pivotal role in advancing psychiatric knowledge and practice in South Africa and across sub-Saharan Africa. Through its affiliation with Tygerberg, Stikland and Lentegeur hospitals, the Department provides comprehensive mental health services while training the next generation of psychiatrists, researchers, and mental health professionals.

 

The Department's research portfolio spans a wide range of critical areas, including consultation-liaison psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, psychopharmacology, child and adolescent psychiatry, community mental health, and global mental health. With a strong emphasis on addressing the unique mental health challenges facing African populations, the Department has cultivated numerous international collaborations and contributed significantly to global psychiatric literature. Its commitment to both excellence in clinical care and groundbreaking research has established it as a crucial resource in addressing South Africa's mental health needs while advancing the field of psychiatry nationally and internationally.
