Thank you for showing interest in specialist training in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care at Stellenbosch 肆客足球.  As a foreign National we look forward to receiving an application from you to embark on your postgraduate training in Anaesthesiology & Critical Care in our department.  at welcome you and you can be accepted as a supernumerary (unpaid) registrar in our department.

The Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care is a diverse department offering specialist training at Tygerberg hospital and the district hospitals in the eastern metro of the City of Cape Town.  In addition to training in Critical care, pain management and peri-operative medicine services, trainees also receive in depth work based training in Anaesthesia for a wide range of surgical specialities including:  

  • General surgery (Abdominal surgery, Breast and Endocrine, Trauma)
  • Plastic surgery
  • Cardiothoracic surgery
  • Paediatric surgery
  • Ear nose and throat surgery
  • Orthopaedic surgery
  • Obstetrics
  • Gynaecology
  • Urology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Radiology
  • Paediatric oncology
  • Cardiology

Specialist trainees in our department actively participate in the perioperative care of patients as well as develop clinical and technical skills needed to function as a specialist Anaesthesiologist.  Trainees have access to high level teaching to equip them with the knowledge to pass the Anaesthesiology specialist exit examination in South Africa.

Our main teaching hospital is Tygerberg Hospital.  Tygerberg Hospital is a tertiary hospital located in Parow, Cape Town. The hospital was officially opened in 1976 and it is the largest hospital in the Western Cape and the second largest hospital in South Africa. The hospital is the referral centre for the eastern metro of the City of Cape Town, and the eastern part of the Western Cape province.

Cape Town is a thriving modern metropolitan city, and it considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world.  In addition to world class specialist training, successful applicants will also enjoy the many aspects of a vibrant social life available in the city of Cape Town.

The Specialist training programme runs for a minimum of 4 years, during which time you will be working as a full time trainee member of staff.   

To help you with your application process Stellenbosch 肆客足球 has a dedicated team who manage the International office?.  We recommend that you initiate the process one year before you want to start your specialist training as it may take some time to register with the Health Professions Council of South Africa and to complete your registration with the university.
