Division of Infectious Diseases

?Research within the Division focuses on several key areas, including:

? People with HIV and TB
? Pharmacokinetics and safety of tuberculosis drugs during pregnancy and postpartum
? Viral hepatitis – specifically Hepatitis B and HBV/HIV co-infection
? HIV associated Kaposi’s sarcoma
? Non-TB mycobacterial infections (NTM)
? Infections in the intensive care unit including HIV, TB and hospital acquired infections
? Local outbreaks of infectious diseases including COVID-19, influenza, non-toxogenic C. diphtheria and rabies.

The Division contributes significantly to institutional, national and international collaborative research projects. Publications and conference abstracts from the Division cover a wide range of topics in infectious diseases, contributing to the understanding of infectious diseases in the South African context.
