Academic Support

Academic writing skills workshops are specifically aimed at postgraduate students who have to write research proposals, theses and dissertations, and academic articles. Most of the workshops are embedded in specific subject fields and are developed in close collaboration with the departments concerned. To accommodate students whose departments do not have tailor-made academic writing workshops, generic workshops are presented regularly.

At the Writing Lab and the Reading Lab students get individual assistance with academic writing and reading development. These services are structured in such a way that students can determine the pace at which they are able to work.

The Writing Lab's one-to-one consultations allow students to discuss their own writing with trained writing consultants so that they can strategise about accurately representing their ideas. The consultations are free and unlimited.

The Reading Lab offers various services – workshops in reading-skill development, one-on-one consultations, reading and learning support groups and a computer speed-reading development programme.

For more specific details about all these services consult the Language Centre website?. ?
