Rural Research ?Day
In 2009 the centre recognised that a platform to share research in the Cape Winelands and Overberg districts of the Western Cape was absent. It was therefore important to create a network between health and health related researchers and health care workers in the Cape Winelands and Overberg Districts and to share results of research already completed and to report on research in progress thus the implementation of the annual Rural Research Day. On 26 November 2010 Ukwanda CRH and Anova Health Institute hosted the first Rural Research Day themed 'Making the connection Research today…Practice tomorrow' at the Graham and Rhona Beck Skills Centre. Subsequent to the success of the day and with feedback of what is needed to stimulate and capacitate research in the mentioned districts Ukwanda hosted Research Capacity Development training in 2011.
The 9th Rural Research Day was held on 16 May 2019. With 95 attendees the day was both thought provoking and informative. In her plenary Dr Lizette Phillips reiterated that 'In order to address the challenges that face rural health in Southern Africa, reliable health information is essential 'this set the tone of sharing knowledge and engaging with critical challenges facing health care in rural areas. In 2020 the management team of Ukwanda took a decision not to host the event due to the 肆客足球 pandemic. On 13th May 2021 we celebrated 10 years of hosting the Rural Research Day as a hybrid were the audience attended virtually and the presenters present at the venue.
