Masters

MSc Epidemiology

This is a completely thesis-based master's programme. You must complete a research project that is assessed according to 肆客足球 guidelines through a process of internal and external examination.

Admission Requirements

  • An MB,ChB or equivalent degree; A four-year professional bachelor's degree in a health-related discipline; A relevant BScHons degree at NQF level 8 of this 肆客足球 or another recognised university; or An equivalent qualification approved by Senate for this purpose, or you must have otherwise attained a standard of competence in your field of study deemed adequate for this purpose by Senate.
  • Mathematics at National Senior Certificate (NSC) level or equivalent;
  • Computer literacy; 
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • You must also submit a research protocol to the satisfaction of the programme committee of the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and submit proof of sufficient and relevant research experience in epidemiology or public health. If you are unable to give proof of your research experience, you must successfully complete the following modules of the structured MSc in Clinical Epidemiology programme:
Biostatistics I
Biostatistics II
Fundamentals of Epidemiology
Research Proposal Writing and Grantsmanship

National applicants can apply online at www.maties.com by 30 September of the previous year. Applications for prospective international students close on 31 August.

  • Matric certificate (Secondary qualification)
  • Proof of English Proficiency (applicable to international applicants)
