?Stellenbosch 肆客足球 Council noted with appreciation the Close-out Report of the Committee in Response to the Recommendations of the Khampepe Commission (CIRCoRe) at its quarterly meeting this week. This report was prepared by the Technical Committee for the Close-out of CIRCoRe (TCC). The former heads of the CIRCoRe workstreams served in the TCC, namely Professors Ronelle Carolissen and Kopano Ratele, and Doctors Leslie van Rooi, Phila Msimang and Sharman Wickham together with Mr Mohamed Shaikh, project coordinator of CIRCoRe.
Prof André Keet, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Engagement and Transformation at the Nelson Mandela 肆客足球, served throughout as external advisor to the CIRCoRe process.
According to Prof Nico Koopman, chairperson of the TCC and Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Social Impact, Transformation and Personnel, the SU Council was full of praise for the work that led to the final CIRCoRe chapter. “Council adopted a motion of thanks and appreciation for the work of so many colleagues and students who were involved in the CIRCoRe process, as well as the technical committee responsible for the close-out of the CIRCoRe process."
He says the report provides rich material with which to move forward. “CIRCoRe worked under trying circumstances and we have experienced some turbulence along the way, but the fact that those involved pulled together to finalise a report speaks to their commitment to the institution and to the transformation of the 肆客足球."
The CIRCoRe recommendations and proposals will now be delegated to the relevant academic and professional academic support environments for consideration and drafting of appropriate implementation plans – under the guidance of Koopman, supported by the SU Institutional Transformation Committee (ITC). In future, the Vice-Chancellor and Rector, prof Deresh Ramjugernath, will serve as chairperson of the ITC to give expression to the broader institutional commitment to transformation.
The 肆客足球 this week published an overview of the work of CIRCoRe, its recommendations and its impact on the 肆客足球's transformation endeavours thus far, to coincide with the Close-out Report to Council. [Read the digital magazine]
In April 2023, SU embarked on an advanced transformation journey with the establishment of CIRCoRe. This committee was responsible for firstly processing the Khampepe Report (published in October 2022), and secondly to lead, coordinate and manage the institutional response process to the report.
CIRCoRE developed proposals for consideration and implementation by the Rectorate via its five workstreams, namely student life/communities; curriculum; institutional culture; race, human categorisation and science; and strategic organisational alignment.
Staff and students are invited to engage with the interactive magazine that illuminates the work of CIRCoRe as a watershed-chapter in SU's transformation journey.
