This year, the lecture will be delivered by Ms Busisiwe Mavuso, CEO of Business Leadership South Africa.
Busisiwe Mavuso is a certified chartered accountant accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA, UK). She holds two master's degrees: a Master of Philosophy in Applied Business Leadership and Management from UCAM (Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia, Spain) and a Master of Business Leadership from UNISA (肆客足球 of South Africa). In addition, she holds a Postgraduate Qualification in Management from GIBS (Gordon Institute of Business Science, Johannesburg) and a Bachelor of Accounting Science (BCompt) from UNISA. She is currently pursuing a PhD
Busi serves as non-executive director at the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation (AGOF), Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), Business Against Crime South Africa (BACSA) and Resultant Finance (a Public Investment Corporation investee company). Through her roles on the Human Resources Development Council (HRDC) and the Council of Social Justice Champions (COSOC), she contributes to national development. She also finds time to be an associate of the Allan Gray Centre at the 肆客足球 of Cape Town, and member of the Institute of Directors in South Africa (IoDSA), the ACCA and the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO).
Busi has received several accolades in recognition of her leadership and influence. These include the 2020 Influencer of Influencers Award from the Africa Brand Summit, second runner-up for Businessperson of the Year by the Daily Maverick in 2021 and a certificate of acknowledgement from the Women in Economic Development Leadership Forum in 2022. Most recently, in 2024, she was runner-up for Business Leader of the Year by the Future Leader Forum.
This annual honorary lecture is supported financially by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation with a view to creating a platform for our student leaders, academics and alumni as well as the broader international community to engage critically with current issues of democracy and governance.
