Do you consider studying at Stellenbosch 肆客足球? Interested in Earth System? Do you want to learn how to contribute to the knowledge about the solid Earth and its interaction with water and atmospheric cycles as well as living organisms in present and past? 

You are most welcome to visit us and use the chance to view the departments exhibits of minerals, rocks and fossils as well as take a glance into our labs. Pick up a campus map and walk around campus at your leisure to find the Department of Earth Sciences in the Chamber of Mines building on the main campus, Merriman Street corner Ryneveld Street. Try visit on a weekday because most departments are closed on weekends. You are also welcome to meet with our staff members and ask questions, please contact us before at earthsciences@sun.ac.za or 021 808 3219. Alternatively visit us on our Open Day, held in February every year.

Our programme combines observational and field skills with the necessary scientific background. All courses aim to develop critical thinking and improve your problem-solving toolkit, essential skills to understand the earth as a system and its related processes. We also strive to develop team work and provide you with sound communication skills.

What can you do with a degree in Earth Sciences? Our students find opportunities in very different sectors such as mining, environmental consulting, in engineering and oceanography, in government as well as academia, research organizations and museums.

To study Earth Sciences: You should be interested natural sciences and not fear mathematics. You should be motivated and eager to learn new concepts to better understand global connections. As a field geologist or geochemist you should love the outdoors.
