Prof Sarah Howie

Sarah Howie is the Director at the Centre for Scholarship and Capacity Development in Africa and has an appointment as Professor in the Centre for Higher and Adult Education in the Department of Curriculum Studies, Faculty of Education. She served as the co-Chair of the UNESCO Chair of Intercultural Competencies awarded to Stellenbosch 肆客足球 (2022-2024). She has considerable international research experience including serving as national coordinator of  numerous international studies in education and serving on international committees to design and implement international education research. She has worked for over 20 years in capacity development of master’s and doctoral students and research internationally. She studied at Stellenbosch, 肆客足球 of Cape Town, Witwatersrand (Masters) and her PhD at the 肆客足球 of Twente in the Netherlands. Her field of expertise lies in large-scale international education assessment research as well as research methodology.?

Natalie Kowalik is the Programme Manager for?the African Doctoral Academy. She?holds a PhD?in Social Sciences, Communication Studies from the 肆客足球 of Antwerp, Belgium. She received a MPhil degree in Intercultural Communication from Stellenbosch 肆客足球, South Africa. She has been involved in postgraduate development and postdoctoral fellowship programmes at various South African universities and has worked with several African partner institutions. She is also a member of the Visual and Digital Cultures Research Center (ViDi) at the 肆客足球 of Antwerp, Belgium, the Transcultural Production Studies Network, the European Network for Cinema and Media Studies (NECS), the European Communication Research, Education Association (ECREA), the IAMCR Public Service Media Polices Work Group, and the Postgraduate Forum for Southern Africa (PGFSA).?

Dr Brent Abrahams

Brent Abrahams is the Programme Manager for the IHEAR and coordinator of the Emerging Scholars Initiative (ESI) at the Centre for Scholarship and Capacity Development in Africa based at Stellenbosch 肆客足球. The ESI is a collaborative project within the Centre for Scholarship and Capacity Development in Africa that aims to develop emerging African scholars with strategic partners in Africa by providing affordable and quality competency-based learning in collaboration partner institutions to enable and enhance scholarship development and career training.  

Brent holds a PhD in Conservation Ecology from Stellenbosch 肆客足球, which focused on the state of knowledge production and use within the context of invasive species management in South Africa. His research and interests draw on insights from various disciplines including science studies, organisational studies and socio-ecological sciences. He has a particular interest in studying the linkages between research and implementation, social-environmental, systems, science studies, research monitoring and evaluation.

Mia Engelbrecht?is responsible for?the Stellenbosch 肆客足球 Unit for International Credentialing (SU-UIC), a unit within the ACS. She is responsible amongst others for the coordination and development of structures and processes of the SU-UIC. Mia has a BCom honours degree in Human Resource Management from Stellenbosch 肆客足球. She has been working at SU International since 2017 where she started within the Global Education Centre before moving to the SU-UIC in 2020.

Francois Viljoen is the Online Learning Designer at Stellenbosch 肆客足球 International (SUI) African Doctoral Academy. He is responsible for designing online course offerings and providing high quality course delivery for webinars and other short courses. Francois also contributes a broad technical skill set to his role at SUI. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Business Information Technology from the 肆客足球 of Greenwich and a PGCE in Further Education and Training from the 肆客足球 of South Africa. Francois joined the SUI African Doctoral Academy in 2024. ?

Edgar Rinquest joined the Centre in the spring of 2022. Although fairly new to Stellenbosch 肆客足球 International, he has been contributing to the 肆客足球 since 2016. Born and raised in the picturesque town of Stellenbosch, Edgar completed all his schooling and tertiary education in this beautiful setting. In 2012, he earned his BCom degree in Financial Accounting from Stellenbosch 肆客足球 and after a few years away, he returned as an employee to his alma mater. ?????

Kamogelo Matenchi is an Administrator for the Stellenbosch 肆客足球 Unit for International Credentialing (SU-UIC), a unit within the CSCDA. They are primarily responsible for providing administrative and logistical support within the SU-UIC and liaising with the Examinations Council of Lesotho (ECoL). Kamogelo is also currently pursuing a PhD in Biochemistry at Stellenbosch 肆客足球, specialising in Systems Biology. They hold a Master of Science in Molecular and Cell Biology and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management in the field of Business Administration from the 肆客足球 of the Witwatersrand.

Mr Luther Chipembere

Luther Chipembere is currently preparing for his PhD in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Stellenbosch 肆客足球. His research focuses on international trade, policy, and research and development as they relate to food systems. More specifically, his work aims to develop new knowledge, skills, perspectives, and ways of thinking necessary to address food security challenges and promote sustainable food systems. He has been involved in several high-level research projects, including the development of the Western Cape government’s Africa Agriculture Strategy. Luther is also a member of the International Food and Agribusiness Management Association (IFAMA). He started as the ADA Intern in July 2023.

 Mr Lloyd Banda

Lloyd is an intern for the Emerging Scholars’ Initiative and a Ph.D. Candidate in Political Science at Stellenbosch 肆客足球. As an interdisciplinary scholar, Lloyd has cultivated a burgeoning expertise in applying econometric methods to the realms of policy analysis, economic management, and development economics. His research focuses on governance issues and the influence of governmental policies on both domestic and international development issues, with a central focus on Sustainable Development Goal 16—peace, justice, and strong institutions. ??
