In line with Africa Day which is on 25 May, Stellenbosch 肆客足球 celebrates the event through various online events and opinion pieces published around this date.
This year, the Rector and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wim de Villiers hosted the Annual Africa Day Lecture on 27 May and during the Africa Day Celebration event hosted by Prof Hester Klopper, DVC Strategy and Internationalisa tion hosted on 25 May, the DVC and Dr. Nico Elema reflected on Stellenbosch 肆客足球's partnerships across the continent and highlighting the partnership between the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPD, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Stellenbosch 肆客足球 in establishing the AUDA-NEPAD Centre of Excellence in Science, Technology and Innovation (Click here for more detail).
Several opinion pieces were also published for the media by Dr Chris Jones (Daily Maverick), Prof Firoz Khan? (Daily Maverick: Part 1 & Part 2) and Prof Hester Klopper (Cape Times), where staff at Stellenbosch 肆客足球 point out that even though Africa faces numerous challenges, it also has many opportunities to achieve sustainable economic development, peace and prosperity. A conversation with multi-award-winning Zimbabwean author of the book This Mournable Body, Tsitsi Dangarembga, a STIAS fellow.
The featured speaker will be in conversation with Professor Tamar Garb, STIAS fellow and art historian at 肆客足球 College London, and Professor Siona O'Connell, Director: Critical African Arts Project at the 肆客足球 of Pretoria.
The Discussion will be moderated by Professor Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela, Chair, Historical Trauma and Transformation at Stellenbosch 肆客足球.
