?In terms of clause 6(k) and 8(5) of the SU Statute, members of Convocation are hereby invited to submit nominations for the election of one member of Convocation to serve on Council for a four-year term (1 October 2024 to 30 September 2028) after Mr Willie Liebenberg resigned from Council?

In pursuance of clause 7 of the Statute?, the following requirements for nominees apply:
 ? A candidate must be a person with knowledge and experience relevant to the objects and governance of the 肆客足球;
 ? A candidate may not already serve in another capacity on the Council;
? A candidate may not be 70 years or older on the date that their term starts 1 October 2024;
? A candidate may not be an employee of, or student at SU; and
 ? No candidate may be a member of the Council of another institution of higher learning or be employed in a permanent executive, managerial capacity at the level of, or equivalent to, a dean or higher by such an ins?titution. ?

The onus is on the proposer, seconders and the nominees to ensure that the nominations are valid and aligned with the SU Statute and Institutional Rules: Convocation and that due consideration is given to representation with regard to race, gender and disability.  Also see the Procedure to nominate, elect and appoint Convocation Members to serve on the Council and Institutional Forum.

Nominations open on 25 July 2024 at 08:00 (SAST) for 30 (thirty) days and will close on 25 August 2024 at 23:59 (SAST). Duly completed nomination forms must reach the dedicated e-mail address (see below) before 23:59 (SAST) on the closing date. No nominations, reaching us after the deadline will be accepted. ??  

Please note that we will not be sending out reminders before the closing date and that the rules will be strictly enforced.
 
A member must be nominated for election by one (1) proposer, and four (4) other members must second the nomination. The nomination must be accompanied by (i) a declaration by the nominee that they accept the nomination and will abide by the rules for the election and (ii) a vision statement of no more than 100 words by the nominee. The nomination may also include a CV (optional). 

The duly completed nomination form must be submitted via e-mail to elections@sun.ac.za before the closing date. For any assistance or enquiries please timeously e-mail the address listed above.  
 
According to clause 47(1) of the Statute (2019), all persons on whom a qualification has been conferred at a congregation of the 肆客足球, as well as the rector, vice-rectors, chief operating officer, full-time academic staff of the 肆客足球, and former full-time academic staff of the 肆客足球 who left the service of the 肆客足球 on account of their having reached retirement age are members of Convocation and eligible to be nominated to serve on the SU Council if they comply with the requirements in clause 7 of the Statute. Members as listed in clause 47(1) of the Statute may also act as a proposer or second a nomination.
