Researchers and students in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch 肆客足球 are invited and encouraged to make use of the research and internationalisation mechanisms on offer by the FMHS division for Research and Internationalisation Development and Support (RIDS).
RIDS operates under the leadership of Prof Nico Gey van Pittius, Vice Dean: Research and Internationalisation. RIDS aims to provide a friendly, professional and efficient service for the promotion of research in the FMHS. Broad areas of research development and support covered by RIDS include: developing and strengthening research capacity among staff and students; coordinating research funding applications and awards from SU and national and international funding bodies; compliance with regulatory requirements such as the ethical approval of research protocols; and collaboration with the Research Grants Management Office.
RIDS is comprised of seven offices: the Research Capacity Development and Funding Office, the Tygerberg Doctoral Office, the Registrar Research Support Office, the Undergraduate Research Offic?e, the Health Research Ethics Office, the Animal Research Unit, and Tygerberg International. ?Together, these units service the research, funding and ethics-related needs of Faculty staff, students and research partners; and maintain close links with the Division of Research Development (DRD) of SU in addressing a number of other research-related issues.
The Research Capacity Development and Funding office develops the research capacity of staff and postgraduate students. The office disseminates research funding opportunities, manages internal research funding, and coordinates the submission of research outputs for subsidy. Dr Tania Brodovcky manages this office.??
The purpose of the Health Research Ethics Office is to support Stellenbosch 肆客足球 researchers towards compliance in the protection of human participant safety, rights, and welfare in health research. Ms Charmaine Khumalo manages this office.
Tygerberg International promotes exchange; supports international visitors; and facilitates the registration of international colleagues with the HPCSA and the Foreign Workforce Management programme of the national Department of Health. Dr Nyambura Mwagiru leads this portfolio.
?The Tygerberg Doctoral Office facilitates the strategic and logistical components of the doctoral process, from recruitment to graduation; convenes a Predoctoral Short Course, manages research masters' examinations, and provides a faculty-based contact point for postdoctoral fellows. Dr Liela Groenewald is at the head.
The Registrar Research Support Office provides research guidance and support for registrars in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences who are undertaking research as part of specialist (MMed) and sub-specialist (MPhil) qualifications. Dr Emmanuel Obasa manages this office. ?
The purpose of the Undergraduate Research Office is to support undergraduate students in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences who are undertaking research, through building research capacity, facilitating ethics review and mobilising funding. Ms Inge Sonn manages this office.
