The Information Technology Division is preparing to begin the final phase of the Windows 11 rollout at Stellenbosch 肆客足球. Most Windows 10 devices that meet the requirements will now automatically be upgraded, unless they have already been manually updated. Staff have had the opportunity to upgrade on their own, but the IT Division is now moving forward to ensure all suitable devices are brought up to date, starting at the end of August.

This upgrade is necessary to keep devices secure, supported, and compliant because Windows 10 is about to reach its End of Life and will no longer receive important security updates.

Important: Please don't stop the upgrade process.

When your device restarts to start the upgrade,

- Do NOT turn it off, unplug it or force it to shut down.

- Stopping the upgrade could damage your system and make your device useless.

- Although the installation process is automated, it will ask to restart; simply wait for it to finish. Your device will restart several times.

What you must do right away

If Windows 11 is compatible with your device, you still have the option to manually upgrade whenever it is convenient for you:

1. Select Windows Update under Settings.

2. Under optional updates, choose Windows 11, version 24H2.

3. Select "Download" and "Install."

This enables you to control the timing prior to the upgrade being implemented.

What happens if you don't see the update?

Your device might not have the required hardware specifications or there may be a software issue preventing the update from installing if Windows 11 is not visible under Windows Update.

If so,

1. Go to the ICT Partner Portal

2. Choose the "Upgrade my computer" tile

3. Fill out the request form so we can evaluate your device.

If your device cannot be upgraded, a technician will help to confirm compatibility or offer suggestions for alternatives.

The significance of this upgrade

- Support for Windows 10 is ending: After October 2025, security patches will no longer be available.

- Windows 11 offers greater security: Best used with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, our enterprise-grade antivirus programme.

- Up-to-date features and compatibility: Enhanced power and memory efficiency, enhanced performance and compatibility with the newest applications.

There is not much time left 每 act NOW to avoid disruptions.

What is the focus of this course?

This practical short course aims to develop your ability to 每

• recognise the format and content of the IELTS exam by discussing, practising and analysing each section of the exam;
• improve your test-taking skills and strategies by completing IELTS-style practise tests in reading, listening, speaking and writing;
• perform optimally within an academic context, to enter your chosen academic programmes; and
• recognise the scoring procedure for the exam, so that you may interpret your own test scores.

By the end of the short course, you will be able to 每

• skim and scan academic and authentic texts for general and specific information;
• extract information from and make references based on texts of varying lengths, such as university lectures, radio documentaries and radio interviews and conversations;
• interpret and compare data in tables and graphs;
• develop arguments and express opinions on abstract topics;
• provide information in a formal interview context; and
• expand academic vocabulary related to common topics such as the environment science and technology, health, energy, transport, education, the arts and media.

What are the prerequisites?

• You need a minimum B2/Upper-Intermediate English language proficiency level
• You may need to complete an online English placement test before the start of the short course
• If you do not have the desired level for entry to the short course, we will make recommendations on how to improve your English so that you may be admitted at a later stage

 When and how will the short course take place?

The IELTS Test Preparation short course is presented online during 2-hour sessions, twice a week over 5 to 6 weeks, with 25 hours in total.

Short courses open before the first contact or online session and close well after the last session. This allows you enough time to access SUNOnline, the learning platform we use.

 
What is required from you to be awarded a certificate of attendance?

• Attend and participate actively during all the contact and/or live online sessions
• Submit assignments, if any, by the due date
• Less than 10% absence (without a valid reason)

What is the cost?

The course fee is R4 396 per participant.

• All fees are payable before the short course starts
• We will present a course only if the required minimum candidates have paid and confirmed attendance
• Short course participants do not receive access to 肆客足球 facilities such as computer labs or the library
