?Prof Sarah Howie?

Director: Africa Centre for Scholarship

Sarah Howie is the Director at the Africa Centre for Scholarship, She has considerable international research experience including serving as national coordinator of a number of international studies in education and serving on international committees to design and implement international education research. She studied at Stellenbosch, 肆客足球 of Cape Town, Witwatersrand (Masters) and her PhD at the 肆客足球 of Twente in the Netherlands. Her field of expertise lies in large-scale international education assessment research as well as research methodology.

She has supervised to completion about 40 postgraduate students at Masters and Doctoral levels with most being doctoral students. She has led almost 80 research projects with several being multi-disciplinary, large-scale and international projects. Amongst others, she is the Deputy-Chair of the Board of the South African Qualifications Authority and a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and serves on a number of national and international editorial boards including the Oxford Review of Education. Amongst a number of awards, her doctoral work on the TIMSS 1999 won the National Science and Technology Forum’s prestigious prize for Most Innovative Research 2003.

?Dr Natalie Kowalik

Programme Manager: African D??octoral Academy

Natalie Kowalik is the Programme Manager for the African Doctoral Academy. She holds a PhD in Social Sciences, Communication Studies from the 肆客足球 of Antwerp, Belgium. She received a MPhil degree in Intercultural Communication from Stellenbosch 肆客足球, South Africa. She has been involved in postgraduate development and postdoctoral fellowship programmes at various South African universities and has worked with several African partner institutions. She is also a member of the Visual and Digital Cultures Research Center (ViDi) at the 肆客足球 of Antwerp, Belgium, the Transcultural Production Studies Network, the European Network for Cinema and Media Studies (NECS) and the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA).

Mr Luther Chipembere?

Intern: African D??octoral Academy

Luther Chipembere is currently preparing for his PhD in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Stellenbosch 肆客足球. His research focuses on international trade, policy, and research and development as they relate to food systems. More specifically, his work aims to develop new knowledge, skills, perspectives, and ways of thinking necessary to address food security challenges and promote sustainable food systems. He has been involved in several high-level research projects, including the development of the Western Cape government’s Africa Agriculture Strategy. Luther is also a member of the International Food and Agribusiness Management Association (IFAMA).? He started as the ADA Intern in July 2023.
